My very pregnant cat is on top of me as I write this. Her milk is in. She is ready to pop.
So who the hell made this guy with the man bun and the beard…
the official “dadbod” #dadbod model? He’s everywhere.
Who is he? Is he the next Leo Dicaprio (pronounced: Dee Ka Pree OH) or something?
Why is he stealing my style???
Yeah right, manbuns were in like 2 months ago. #manbun … It’s so hard to live up to today’s standards. First I need fit abs, now I don’t need fit abs. First my penis was smaller than average, now my penis is about average. I just can’t keep up with all these demands on my body AND my male identity. Life is unfair.
Speaking of unfair, how about being underprivileged in Baltimore? I’m repulsed by the general argument, “if he just listened to the cop, then he wouldn’t be dead.” I’m especially repulsed by the Black American talking heads of the media, the Bill Cosby Uncle Tom’s, telling the darker skinned youth of today to get their act together. Check your privilege. I’m willing to wager 9.5 out of 10 of the suits doing the scolding had at least some semblance of a strong family (a positive voice in their corner) making the responsibility of education a top priority in their lives. What of the youth that never had that? I’m betting most of you scolders had some form of inherently-implied upward mobility, a basic expectation of hope – and if you didn’t, then congrats; I would imagine the outliers who “made it” against the odds would have more empathy for the others growing up without stability (id est exempli gratia, drug addicted parents) or hope, maybe not though, maybe it’s disgust for those who couldn’t make it, a fear that with one misstep, you could have been just like them.
Don’t mix my words of distaste for my props to the community leaders actually promoting change and good. No, I’m scolding the suits who tsk from afar, who likely always had a decent chance in life, where getting into college was a tangible expectation, as they cast their eyes down upon the poor plebeians. “Just work hard,” they say, as they pat themselves on the back, because really, they are smarter, preordained to be better, therefore richer.
I’m confronted with my own prejudices when I see someone with their “pants on the ground”. My gut reaction is that they are missing the point of pants, but who am I to judge how clothes are meant to be worn? “Thug Attire” often signals a lower socio-economic class, therefore one gets a sense of superiority, mixed with fear when encountering an untouchable. Does he have a gun? Is he going to ask me for money? Does he think I’m racist?
So Freddie Gray has been falling from the public eye since the indictment. The right wing media is dumping their cop martyrs, on to the next story. At the moment, they no longer need to thugify.
Tell me, what is the relevance of a person’s criminal history when he is hog tied, untethered in the back of a van? With the audacity of some to insinuate his severed spine was self inflicted, I can not help but feel sickened and saddened.
Ultimately though, the dadbod is a good thing and I’m glad it’s getting a name and attention. It describes a man comfortable in his own skin. And that’s sexy. Of course everyone now feels entitled to make the joke about how they’ve been rocking it for so long, or how ahead of the times they’ve been. As a dad, I sense a hint of hipster mockery (hipmockery? hipsockery?) of fathers in this trend, but primarily it is a mad respect for the glowing confidence of a dad. Dads are just goofy.
The UK had some elections. Now they all must vote whether or not to stay in the EU. The Scottish party won heavily in Scotland, making another referendum for independence sooner rather than later. I’m pretty ignorant to the affairs across the pond, but I don’t think it’s healthy to continue to have a vote for independence. I’d give it at least another 20 years before you can try again. However, I think Scotland becoming separate from the UK is more likely than the UK leaving the EU. Who knows. As a bleeding heart kumbaya liberal one-worlder, I think the more unified, the better.
But North Korea, man. Pyongyang claimed they successfully launched a missile from a submarine. It has not been independently verified, but that could be a game changer. I have very little armchair diplomat ideas for a solid solution, apart from airdropping movies, porno, electronic music, cellphones with internet connection and Kim Kardashian’s selfie book. Actually that sounds like a really great idea. But should we allow the Japanese to arm themselves? It’s bizarre in a way, that it is up to the US to make that call.
Side note: if anyone wants to buy me a copy of Kim Jong Il’s book on movie making, my birthday is coming up.
The courts just said metadata collection is illegal. Snowden, your sacrifice was not wholly in vain.
Bring him home, let him face trial without the antiquated espionage charges. But really, I’m starting to feel like I need to be more careful. Everyone. EVERYONE! should download Textsecure for android or Signal 2.0 for IOS. But Author, I don’t have anything to hide. That’s the exact same bullshit reasoning that got Freddie Gray killed. It plays right into police power. It plays right into authoritarianism. Get the app! Put it on your phone right now. It’s really good, as functional as any other texting app and It will encrypt your text messages so busybody spooks can’t read your texts. I’ll give you a moment to install it….
We good? Bernie Sanders is running for President.
He’s for reigning in on the rich. He is quite the populist, but his foreign policy standpoints aren’t very clear. He seems to be rubber-stamping Obama’s wishes for any type of drone war. He may be another drone president. Hillary, you seemed to have already won, what with your stance on immigration, and that makes me mope. More police militarization. More money in politics. More prisons for profit. More drone strikes. More meddling overseas, patching the messes that we created, making our military largesse ever… larger.
Bernie, you’re 73, you’re white and you are going to have a hard time reaching latinos, and probably women. You can’t be discussed in the media without Hillary being mentioned in the next breath. Staying relevant for the next year and a half will be quite a challenge.
The NSA argument that “cell phone companies already keep meta data, so what’s the big deal if we do?” is a load a crap for one simple reason: VERIZON DOESN’T HAVE GUNS. At&t doesn’t have an army. T-mobile does not have militarized drones. Cricket can’t put me in prison for the rest of my life… you get the idea.
Turns out Baltimore has the least economic mobility in the country. Why are these thugs rioting!? On Fox, to further prove they weren’t being racist with the word ‘Thug,’ Geraldo (was it Geraldo?) pointed out some “white thugs” up to some tomfoolery as well. So we have thugs and we have wiggers… ahem, white thugs. Whites once again appropriating Black culture.
Meanwhile… Noam Chomsky objectively and categorically won the email “debate” with Sam Harris. I read the whole thing (hardly skimmed at all). I am not an acolyte of either, but after reading it through, it became clear Harris was missing the point again and again, unwilling to accept he was being intellectually crushed, unable to move from a single point. But Noam Chomsky was mean and uncordial! Boohoo. If you can’t see past his crotchety-ness, then you shouldn’t try to debate the man, he’s not in it for niceness awards. Any defenders of Harris will be obviously outed as fedora-wearing fans of his, licking his wounds for him as so his ego (and de facto, theirs) were not too injured; they are the worshippers of the shallow New Atheism (religious zealots of the state), giving reasoned atheists a bad name. [Note: I had no idea who Sam Harris was before I read the debate… So in that regard, Sam Harris won.]
I’m running out of steam now, but I am still pissed about any reason for thugification of a black man to justify a police murder, just so all the slightly more privileged can disregard him. Like the innocent (as Chomsky put it) ants we accidently blow up in the Middle East based off of mild hunches of terrorist-like behavior, we dehumanize… or more accurately, subhumanize the victims. Regardless of a civilian’s wrap sheet, it is the police that need to be held to a higher standard. They have the guns and the law, after all.
Body cameras are a bandaid to an economic mobility problem, an educational problem…
…What we need is the destigmatization of abortion. After the industrialization of the Earth is complete, to succeed, either capitalism will need to adapt to a zero population growth model, or it will necessarily drive us to the stars, colonizing other planets and dimensions, which apparently there are trillions of habitable planets out there. Why haven’t we heard from alien life? My guess is life advancement goes so quickly from an industrial era to a machine singularity event that there is no time to run into them. We’ll see them as we expand into the infinity of other dimensions. Or something.
Back to body cameras and one of the many issues to arise, police officers want to have the right to review their footage before filing their reports. I say NAY. An unfettered report from a police officer right after an incident of any kind is important to know what he or she saw before going over the tapes. Bodycam implementation seems to be an inevitability, bringing us frighteningly closer to a more complete surveillance state. The footage gathered is going to bring a whole slew of issues that I can’t even think about right now. How are we going to get police brutality video on a youtube supercut if they have the monopoly on it? Can police profit from their youtube ad revenue of videos of their own police brutality? To name a few.
#BaltimoreRising. We need a new Fred Hampton so Alex Jones can continue cumming during this race war wetdream of his.
Oh, turns out Conan O’Brien is a spokesman for #gamergate as he only cares about having sex with objectified women during a preview play of Witcher 3. #Witcher3
Oh, and Budweiser. Thank you. I took “no” right out of my vocabulary and she was #downforwhatever … Sidenote: this whole Rolling Stone rape mishap. At what point can we scold “Jackie” a little bit? I know it was Rolling Stone that dropped the ball big time, but come on, it sounds like it was a negligent lie that could ruin the lives of many upstanding frat members. Did something happen? Probably. Maybe. We’ll most likely never know. Also, a distinction needs to be made between forcible (violent) rape, opposed to the rape that one never said “yes” to, it truly marginalizes the former. While I’m on the R subject, campuses should not be investigating rapes, the police should. Campuses don’t investigate murders, batteries or thefts; that’s police work. Police need to get better at handling and understanding the victims, yes.
Props to Joss Whedon, that movie could have been such a catastrophic mess, instead it was an enjoyable mess. I know you say it’s not the extreme feminists out there on twitter who made you quit tweeting, that you just needed a quiet place, but who’s making the noise? The thought-policing-pearl-clutching feminists. That’s who! I liked the prima nocta joke. Braveheart.
Everyone has a bright idea about what to do. But here is a dadbod for you:
THE dadbod. MY DADBOD. DeeKaPreeOh be damned.
Fuck you Hannity.
